How to play the ragdoll sandbox
- Grab is on when you start. Press on any part of the dummy, drag, and let go to throw it. Grabbing the head or a foot swings it differently.
- Pick another tool and tap the playground: Dummy adds more ragdolls, Crate and Ball drop things on them, Car adds a car that drives toward the middle, and Boom sets off an explosion where you tap.
- With Ramp, drag a line to build a fixed ramp or wall. Erase removes whatever you tap, including ramps.
- Every hard hit adds to the damage counter in the corner. Very hard hits break a bone (CRACK!) or knock the dummy out. Your best score on each map stays in your browser.
Keyboard shortcuts: 1 to 8 pick the tools in order, S slow motion, G zero gravity, P pause, R reset the map.
Four maps
- Playground: open ground, a stack of crates and a ramp. Good for testing throws.
- Stairs: a long staircase with the dummy at the top. One push is enough.
- Crash test: a car with a dummy on the roof drives into a wall of crates and a concrete barrier.
- Seesaw: the dummy stands on one end. Drop a bowling ball on the other end and see how far it flies.
Tips for a bigger damage score
- Speed matters more than anything: a hit at twice the speed scores about three times as much.
- Head hits score about twice as much as body hits.
- Heavy things hurt more: getting hit by the bowling ball or a car counts extra.
- Turn on Slow-mo before a big crash to watch it, then turn it off. It does not change the score.
- In Zero-G everything floats. An explosion then sends dummies bouncing around the walls for a long time.
How the ragdoll physics works
Each dummy is made of 11 rigid parts: head, chest, pelvis, upper and lower arms and upper and lower legs. They are pinned together at the neck, shoulders, elbows, waist, hips and knees, and two softer links stop the neck and waist from folding flat. Gravity, momentum, friction and collisions are handled by the open-source Matter.js 2D physics engine, running 60 times a second in your browser.
The damage score is worked out from how fast a body part was moving relative to whatever it hit. Small bumps score nothing, so a dummy lying still does not keep adding points.
FAQ
Is Ragdoll Playground free?
Yes. It runs in your browser for free. There is nothing to download, no account and no in-game purchases.
Does it work on phones, tablets and Chromebooks?
Yes. It works with touch as well as a mouse, in any modern browser. On a phone, press Full screen for a bigger playground; in portrait the playground switches to a taller layout.
Is there blood or gore?
No. The ragdolls are cartoon crash-test dummies. They turn red where they are hit and show a crack mark on a broken bone, nothing more.
Is this People Playground or the Roblox game Realistic Ragdoll Engine?
No. It is our own small browser game. It is not made by, or affiliated with, the makers of People Playground, Ragdoll Playground apps, Roblox or No Knees!. If you are looking for the Roblox game, our Realistic Ragdoll Engine page has its live player count and badges.
Is my best score saved?
Your best damage score for each map is kept in your own browser. It is not sent anywhere and there is no leaderboard.
